Looking Back on Fifty Years

FAVORITE MEMORIES OF WILLIAMS

Favorite profs – Stoddard, Faison, Pierson, Hyde, Oakley. Named my son after Whit Stoddard.
Activities – football and hockey – coaches Odell, Lamb, McCormick, Ellingwood.

Never expected to be an art history major but loved every day in the classroom.

Best sports memories –
Beating Amherst senior year – ”The Walk”.
Beating West Point in overtime in hockey.
Loved my teammates on and off the field/ice.

CURRENT INTERESTS, PASSIONS, AND ORGANIZATIONS

On boards of museums and hospitals and schools in Toronto. Fulbright Commission. On corporate boards. Continue to love sailing, golf, and travel. Spent untold days racing with Reg Pierce and our boys. Closest thing to being back in the huddle.

LIFE SINCE GRADUATION

Reflecting on the past 50 years, I can truly say that, even with all the challenges life presents, I have been very fortunate. A great family (seven children and a spouse much smarter than me), a rewarding career (45 years at the same firm), and many good friends (two of my closest in our class) have made the journey most satisfying.

Williams was a wonderful experience, although I would have liked to win a few more games. I never would have guessed I would be an art history major and end up naming a son after Whit Stoddard. I believe our generation felt it was a privilege to attend such a great institution. At times today I sense, unfortunately, the students feel it is a privilege for Williams to have them enrolled.

All in all, I was very lucky to have come to the Purple Valley in the fall of 1968—a special place with special people. My best wishes to our class. I look forward to seeing everyone in June.
