Looking Back on Fifty Years
FAVORITE MEMORIES OF WILLIAMS
Jim Ellingwood (freshman lacrosse) was a great guy. He was inspirational and fair and was a true teacher of the game. Chuck Jankey was Jim’s assistant and, having been an All-American goalie himself, was able to teach a couple of us (Cas and me) some of the finer points of protecting the cage. Kurt Tauber made me believe in Marxism (for a while) and allowed me to do my senior paper on private game preserves In Wyoming!
Loved the intramural hockey program. Classes!!! What classes???
WILLIAMS CLUBS / ACTIVITIES
Club: KA Activities: Freshman Football and Lacrosse (capt.), Varsity Lacrosse (3 years), Captain.
LIFE SINCE GRADUATION
1972: moved my tack to Saratoga Springs and worked at the Skidmore stables. Long hours and hard work, but it had its advantages.
1973: headed for Wyoming but got sidetracked and wound up in Ohio for 10 years or so. Ran a hunter/jumper barn, spent seven years working for a veterinary group, and finally managed a Thoroughbred/polo/cattle farm. Played and refereed polo, prepped and sold yearlings for the Kentucky market.
1980: moved to Kentucky to begin doing what I wound up doing until 2012 . . . the Thoroughbred horse business, all facets. The last significant stop was in Midway. Managed a 300-acre farm and foaled and raised 50-60 babies yearly. Most went to the Keeneland or Fasig-Tipton sales, but some we raised to race. There were some nice successes but no Derby horses.
