Looking Back on Fifty Years
FAVORITE MEMORIES OF WILLIAMS
I was very fond of all of my English teachers, including Clay Hunt, Bill Boone, and Jonathan Aaron.
CURRENT INTERESTS, PASSIONS, AND ORGANIZATIONS
Before the pandemic, my Jack Russell terrier and I were a therapy dog team visiting with children at a medical clinic and nursing home residents. We were sponsored by the Good Dog Foundation, which does very worthy work.
LIFE SINCE GRADUATION
As I sit at the computer, thinking about my time after Williams, I realize there are several threads: the practice of law, travel, and a number of long-term obsessions.
After graduation, I spent a year traveling in Europe on the Watson Fellowship, writing poetry and taking photographs in countries with ancient mythologies. That included Greece, Italy, and Ireland.
Four days after I arrived back home, I was in law school. Major culture shock. I practiced law for more than 40 years, with a few timeouts. I started on Wall Street and then spent 30 years doing communications and entertainment law. When the last company I worked for was sold, I went back to school and got an MBA in finance.
After that, I worked at NBC as their international lawyer, becoming part of the teams that put together NBC Europe and NBC Asia. I traveled widely, especially in Asia. I always tacked a week’s vacation on to my NBC travel, visiting India, Myanmar, And Cambodia, among other places. Obsessions: Since the 1990s, I have collected South Asian and Southeast Asian sculptures and Neolithic Chinese jades. For 15 years, I made jewelry, working in high-carat gold, gems, and pearls. During the pandemic, I have collected and grown bonsais.
I have taken nine trips with Williams, going to the Galapagos, Cuba, Tahiti, and Costa Rica, and elsewhere.
That is a smattering of my life activities for the 50 years since Williams. Hope to see you all at the reunion.
